That is the significance of the simple command "DO THIS" ~ the divine implication is, "DON'T DO THAT", i.e., after the manner of the world, in theatrical reenactments, egg hunts, etc.
Today, however, look at the activities going on without regard for the Lord of lords simple command, "DO THIS".Īs Moses commanded the children of Israel, not to worship after the manner of the Canaanites ( Deuteronomy 12:29-31), God's people are commanded to worship in spirit and in truth (J ohn 4:24). No such command as ".this do in remembrance of Me" exists for observance of Jesus' birth nor for it to be done only once a year.
But when we are judged by the Lord, we are disciplined so that we may not be condemned along with the world." ~ 1 Corinthians 11:23-32 There are religious groups that observe the Lord’s Supper once a year, and others quarterly. ’ How often to partake of this Memorial Feast We must be regular in our observance of his supper. But if we judged ourselves truly, we would not be judged. This do, as often as you drink it in remembrance of me. That is why many of you are weak and ill, and some have died. For anyone who eats and drinks without discerning the body eats and drinks judgment on himself. Let a person examine himself, then, and so eat of the bread and drink of the cup. Whoever, therefore, eats the bread or drinks the cup of the Lord in an unworthy manner will be guilty concerning the body and blood of the Lord. DO THIS, as often as you drink it, IN REMEMBRANCE OF ME.” For as often as you eat this bread and drink the cup, you proclaim the Lord's death until he comes. DO THIS in remembrance of me.” In the same way also he took the cup, after supper, saying, “This cup is the new covenant in my blood.
"For I received from the Lord what I also delivered to you, that the Lord Jesus on the night when he was betrayed took bread, and when he had given thanks, he broke it, and said, “This is my body, which is for you. We should partake with reverence, love, and a deep sense of gratitude for the Lord Jesus, who was willing to die on the cross to take upon Himself our sins.THIS IS HOW JESUS COMMANDED HIS DEATH, BURIAL, & RESURRECTION BE OBSERVED EACH & EVERY FIRST DAY OF THE WEEK: In any case, it’s not the frequency that matters but the heart attitude of those who participate. It should be often enough to renew focus on Christ, without being so often that it becomes routine. Since the Bible does not give us specific instruction as to frequency, there is some latitude in how often a church should observe the Lord’s Supper. Some churches have a monthly Lord’s Supper service others do it bi-monthly others weekly. It would seem that, since we take the Lord’s Supper to remember Christ’s death, we should take it fairly often. Communion is a beautiful picture of what happened at the cross, what it means, and how it impacts our lives as believers. Each time we observe the ordinance of communion, we are not only remembering what He did for us, but we are “showing” it as well to all who watch and all who participate. The cup represents the blood He shed on our behalf, sealing a covenant between Him and us. The bread that Jesus broke represents His body that was broken on the cross for us. First Corinthians 11:23–26 records the following instructions for communion: “The Lord Jesus, on the night he was betrayed, took bread, and when he had given thanks, he broke it and said, ‘This is my body, which is for you do this in remembrance of me.’ In the same way, after supper he took the cup, saying, ‘This cup is the new covenant in my blood do this, whenever you drink it, in remembrance of me.’ For whenever you eat this bread and drink this cup, you proclaim the Lord’s death until he comes.” This passage gives all the instructions we need to perform the rite of communion and to understand the significance of what we are doing. The Bible nowhere instructs us how often we should take communion.
